The Brownie Programme is based on You, the Community, and the World
You: Brownies develop confidence and self-esteem through having new experiences and learning new skills. They build friendships and learn to share and cooperate with others by working together in small groups called ‘Sixes’. They get a say in what happens at Brownies through discussions or ‘Pow-wows’, which help them develop decision-making skills and the ability to put their views across.
Community: We encourage girls to become active citizens by helping them understand and participate in their communities. This could mean raising money for charities or visiting local places of interest.
World: Our programme encourages girls to learn about the wider world. Activities could involve celebrating a festival from a different culture, finding out about endangered animal species, or learning how they can combat climate change.
Events: We ask for a permission form for events away from our meeting place. A blank for is attached:
Brassington Brownies are a busy Pack, and have done lots of things, including:
- Pack Holidays in Derbyshire and London
- Sleepovers, including one in Lichfield Cathedral
- Camping
- Badges and Challenges, such as Star gazer, Gardener, Crafts, Disability Awareness, World Traveller, Cook, Arts Explosion etc
- Cooking
- Concerts and Plays
- Games
- Penpals
- Parties and celebrations
- Fun days, such as a Hogwarts Day
- Arts and Crafts (look for ideas on the website)
- Campfires indoors and out
- Service to the community, like litter collection, singing in Care Homes, Christmas Boxes for children, Educational supplies for children in Ivory Coast, planting bulbs, carol singing etc..
- Nature trails and Brownie Spring Watch, gardening
- Sports like abseiling, canoeing, adventure courses, football, swimming, ten pin bowling, skating
- Day trips to places like Cadbury World, Eureka Science Park, Skegness, Trentham Gardens & Monkey World
- Evening visits to Pets at Home, Fire Station, Sainsburys back stage tour, European Ice Skating Champonships, Build-a-Bear Workshop, Bowling, Roller Skating, Pantomime etc.
